This print may appear a
little different from some of the other historic prints because the
original art was a pencil drawing instead of a pen-and-ink
rendering. It was the first commemorative print Stephen Henning
created, and the original was presented by the Anoka County Historical
Society to Garrison Keillor in 1995. His face (as seen in his
senior class photograph) was used on one of the figures in the
image. This print is a somewhat lighthearted look at the town
known to many as the "Halloween Capitol of the World" - and
the artwork showcases many of the old structures that were still
standing when the artist was growing up in the 1950's. In
the aerial view one can see the old Main Street bridge, the mill
buildings and dam that are in the print titled "Afternoon on Rum
River" - and the artist's boyhood home on Van Buren Street is
also clearly highlighted.
