Horseshoe Pond,
created by a beaver dam on the creek from Annie Battle Lake to
Blanche Lake in Glendalough State Park. Painted
before Glendalough was officially designated as a State Park,
and boat motors were prohibited - the open channel was where
boat propellers kept the waterlilies from growing.
"My family and I revisited this spot in a canoe 10 years
after the painting was made, and the only difference was the
lily pads had completely choked the waterway. As if on
cue, a white egret dropped into the exact same spot as in the
painting" artist Stephen Henning recalls.
