"This is my tribute
to a vanishing American icon. I photographed this farmstead just
outside the town of Henning, Minnesota, in November 1999 - and I
painted it in January 2000. I guess it should be called
the Millenium Farm. I felt compelled to paint it, because
it looked like my grandparents' old house in Anoka - sort
of. It reminded me of about 3,000 different farmsteads I
have driven past - in Nebraska, Missouri, Illinois, Iowa,
Indiana, Ohio, Wisconsin and Minnesota. People have bought this
print who live in places as far away as California and Georgia - I
guess it reminds them of their grandparents' farms, too.
The last time I drove by it, I noticed the barn roof had
collapsed."
